A signup funnel can fail at the promise, account creation, email verification, payment request, or first empty screen. Counting only completed registrations hides which step needs attention. Record the sequence as a new user would see it.

Check the real path

  1. List each required field and why it is needed before access. Separate account security from sales qualification and optional profile details.
  2. Check the trial page against the real flow: card requirement, verification, trial length, and the first charge should agree.
  3. Watch a new user complete signup on mobile. Note the first screen where they pause, return to email, or encounter an error.
  4. Measure completion by step and by traffic source. Compare the quality of activated users, not just the count of signups.

Decide what to change

Some products need verification or payment details early because of abuse, cost, or regulation. Remove a step only after its purpose and risk are understood. An interactive example or clear preview may help when the first real workspace is empty.

Put it in the project brief

Before paying for a fix, ask the provider to name the affected page or workflow, the change they will make, how they will test it, and which dependencies or exclusions could change the estimate. Keep the baseline and the completed test so both sides can see what improved.
